    Kontor

    Garden Series

  • “Allmende Kontor is one of my favorite projects in Berlin. Filling over 5,000 square meters close to the edge of former airport, Berlin-Tempelhof, it is a community garden where anyone can grow flowers, vegetables and plants. It is an amazing space that is striking with its randomness on the one hand, and organization on another.

As the city does not allow permanent plots, plants and vegetables are grown in an array of unusual materials. While plywood boxes are scattered throughout, other gardeners opt for cooking pots, old shoes, a basketball and even suitcases. Visually this project straddles a world between gardening and contemporary art installation.

Allmende Kontor however is more than just a garden. It is a movement providing the local community with a place to grow, cultivate and connect.”
